Background Statement
The G.F.W.C. Woman's Club of Tallahassee, Inc. was founded in 1903 by six women who met at the Floridian Hotel. Although this was before women could vote, the Club's influence was felt, as women met with city officials regarding the City Market, railroad station, planting trees and upkeep of the city cemetery. Soon Club members were involved in urging the building of Leon High School. When the original high school building was outgrown and Leon High School moved to its present building, the original cornerstone was donated to the Woman's Club, and graces the Clubhouse entrance today. In 1927, the Clubhouse was built and opened on land donated by the developers of the Los Robles neighborhood, Lonnbladh and Thornton.
During World War II the local Red Cross was given use of the building for the war effort. Always interested in community beautification, members were instrumental in the landscaping of Apalachee Parkway. In later years Club women were involved in preservation of the Union Bank, preservation of center city live oak trees, as well as outreach to numerous local charities.
In 1987 the Clubhouse was listed on the National Regiuster of Historic Places. At the time of a major renovation in 2002, the Club was classified as a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization, and assumed the name of G.F.W.C. Woman's Club of Tallahassee, Inc. to indicate it affiliation with the state and national Women's Club network. 2013 marks the Club's 110th year of rich history and service to the Tallahassee/Leon community.

Areas of Service
Areas Served
Our primary service area is Tallahassee and Leon County, although because of our location in the state capital, we do support HOBY, a state wide leadership training for high school students. We also partner with the local Hispanic community to support needy Hispanic women and children living in the US or Latin America.
Board Chair Statement
Our heritage and legacy of service gives us the foundation for a successful future in our beloved Tallahassee. As we celebrate our 111th year, we will continue our legacy of service and preserve the historic Clubhouse in pristine condition and establish it as the showplace of Midtown Tallahassee, after all it is the "Crown Jewel" of Midtown.

Program Comments
CEO Statement/Executive Director/Board Comments Our Woman's Club is housed in an 80 year old Italian Renaissance style Clubhouse located in the heart of Midtown in Tallahassee; a community gathering place for civic, social, political and educational events. Listed on the National Register of Historical Structures, its age requires constant oversight, repair and restoration. Our greatest challenge is to pay off the mortgage obtained in 2003 to totally renovate the structure; we believe we can do that in the next two years. This obligation completed, our members can give 100% effort to community service in the areas of the arts, conservation, education, home life and public affairs. We are also developing an endowment so the historic Clubhouse will be assured of funding for its maintenance in the long term.
