Mission Statement
Our goal is to help make Leon County residents aware of the public library for their educational and literary needs, raise funds to support and enhance the public library and to help provide interesting and informative programs for library patrons. It is an annual goal to make a sizable contribution to the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library system.
Needs Statement
1. Maximize monetary donations to The Friends.
2 Recruit new volunteers from all parts of the community.
3. Develop new fundraisers. Both the Author Event and Title Wave Used Book Sale are not bringing in the revenue they have in the past.  Subcontract/hire a professional fund development advisor to help develop new events and possibly reorganize the current ones for a limited time.
2. Increase community awareness of The Friends and its mission. Develop a PR campaign to tell the community about The Friends, the main Library and its branches. Many people use the Library but are unaware of the impact The Friends' donations make to the Library system. Subcontract/hire a professional to implement the PR campaign.
Impact Statement

The goals of the Friends are:

  1. Acquaint the community with the Leon County Public Library System and stimulate use of its many resources.
  2. Improve and expand the services provided.
  3. Raise money for and encourage gifts to the Library of special or otherwise unaffordable books, programs or equipment.
  4. Provide volunteers to enhance the services provided by the Library staff.
  5. Educate the community on the role a good library plays in the community.
  6. Provide interesting and informative programs for library patrons of all ages.
Background Statement

The Friends of the Library have sponsored projects and expenditures, which extend beyond the command of the normal Library budget for the past 50 years. We build community interest, pride, and financial support for our local Library programs.

Board Chair Statement

The Leon County Public Library system includes the main Library in downtown Tallahassee, and six branch locations serving every part of Leon County. The Friends' sole purpose is financial support and enhancement of the Library's programs, operations and services.

The Friends exist to support and benefit a single entity: The Leon County Public Library. To do so the Friends conduct several various annual fundraising activities, projects and events. The two primary fundraising events are the Author Event and the Title Wave. The Author Event brings a nationally known best-selling author to town for a cocktail reception with sponsors, and for all ticket purchasers, a talk with Q&A, and book signing with attendees. The Title Wave Used Book Sale is a 3-day sale that offers used books, DVDs, videos and other materials for sale to the public. All monies raised support special Library projects, programs, equipment and books.

CEO Statement/Executive Director/Board Comments

The Leon County Library system is a vital community resource dedicated to serving the needs of a diverse and growing population. The proceeds of all fundraisers are used to benefit the Main Library and its branches’ special projects, programs, equipment and books. The Library provides much more than books to the community: computers and free internet access, the Bookmobile, meeting rooms, teen programs, homework help, children’s programs, small business center, art exhibits, and extensive online services to link Leon County residents with their government and schools.  It is also the premier resource for traditional Library materials: books, E-books and audio books, DVDs, CDs, CD-ROMs, and videos.
