Background Statement
Theatre Tallahassee began as Tallahassee Little Theatre in 1949.  The theatre received a gift of 3.1 acres of land in 1957, and the original theatre facility was built in its current location in 1963.  The theatre was completely run by volunteers until 1960 when a full time director was hired.  The theatre now runs with two full time and three part time employees; who oversee the activities of over 200 volunteers a year.
In 1992 the theatre expanded its building, adding on a 270 seat Mainstage auditiorium, lobby and greenroom space.  This allowed Theatre Tallahassee to expand its production schedule and to rent out the facility to other community organizations.
Tallahassee Little Theatre changed its name in 2013 to Theatre Tallahassee, to better represent itself in the community.  A major capital campaign was started and the first phase of facility renovations took place, updating the Mainstage with new carpet, paint, seating, and audio system.  The Coffehouse Theatre space was completely remodeled in 2015 and seats 100 in the black box style theatre space.  The theatre now produces five Mainstage shows, three Coffeehouse shows and at least one special event each season.

Program Comments
CEO Statement/Executive Director/Board Comments Formed in 1949 and incorporated in the State of Florida in 1952, Theatre Tallahassee has developed from a completely volunteer-managed space producing two to four shows per year to a professionally-managed institution that produces ten shows per season. The theatre offers educational opportunities with summer theatre camps for children ages 5-17, and houses The Acting Up Players, a group with over 100 senior citizens participating in classes, community outreach, and producing their own performance series. The facility is used by two other theater companies that do not have their own performance space and for community functions ranging from benefit performances for non-profits, dance recitals, religious services and youth group meetings. Theatre Tallahassee's audience and volunteer participation totals over 18,000 people each year. Another estimated 5,000 are reached through outreach and educational programs and other organizations utilizing the theatre facility.
